Middle School Adviser

Position Vacancy - Middle School Adviser, Liberty LEADS

Working as a member of the Liberty LEADS team, the Middle School Adviser will report to the Assistant Director/Director.  The Middle School Adviser will:

 

Support 5th-8th grade students’ academic and programmatic needs

  • Counsel students on academic issues and outreach services for students and families
  • Advocate for youth in schools and with the Dept. of Education and advocacy groups
  • Help place students in appropriate academic settings; assist students’ applications to special/private schools, summer and academic programs
  • Monitor student promotion to next grade level
  • Participate in school-based support teams and student educational evaluations
  • Assist students and families with the middle school admission process
  • Assist student and families with the high school admission process.

 

Register new and returning 5th-8th grade students

  • Meet parents, acquaint them with LLP
  • Help students sign up for classes
  • Create individual student schedules and behavior management plans

 

Oversee all Saturday and afterschool academic/recreational/enrichiment classes and activities for 5th - 8th graders

  • Collect and produce attendance and outreach rosters; coordinate  class meeting times and spaces; general planning and implementation of the after school program; maintain order during transitions
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train and provide ongoing support,  training and supervision  to all Saturday  and after school academic, recreational and arts instructors.
  • Disseminate information and resources among teachers, tutors, etc.
  • Maintain and collaborate relations withBankStreetCollegecommunity
  • Plan and implement the after school program and weekend college program for 7th-8th graders
  • Maintain and update educational records of all 5-th-8th grade students with the assistance of the After School Assistant

 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and update student and program data for evaluative purposes
  • Assist in the preparation of reports to New York State Educational Department and other funders
  • Help to plan and coordinate summer academic and recreational activities for Middle School LLP students
  • Research relevant information and resources within and outside of theBank Streetcommunity
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Create and run worshops for students and parents
  • Curriculm planning and development

 

Qualifications:

Masters in Education, Special Education, or other related field

Bilingual- Spanish Necessary

Familiarity with the NYC public school system

Familiarty with NYS Common Core Standards a plus
