April 16 Chemistry Set Instructor: Stephen Gould Perform some interesting chemical reactions and experiments that are not available with modern "chemistry sets". For example, see how chemists can tell the difference between two materials that look perfectly alike and see how a chemical reaction using vitamin C occurs under the influence of light.
April 23 MORE FISH Instructor - Dr. Merryl Kafka is retired Curator of Education at the NY Aquarium We’ll learn about color, shape, disruptive patterns, defense, and feeding strategies. New arts and crafts activities, and adaptation concepts will be offered to enhance the first session about the fabulous world of fish.
April 30 A Bead on Seeds Instructor: Harley Spiller Handle a collection of seeds of fruits, vegetables and plants from around the world. Discuss the earth’s largest and smallest seeds. Learn which seeds are used in homes and schools almost every day. Study the intricate differences between seeds and nuts. Make art from seeds.
May 7 H Two Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh…Instructor: Harley Spiller, Museum Educator Hydrogen dioxide might sound scary but it’s plain old water, and it covers 70% of our earth’s surface. Discuss the vital nature of water for humans, animals, plants and all forms of life. What makes water safe to drink? Conduct experiments about the chemical and physical properties of water and the water cycle.
May 14 MORE WHALES Instructor: Dr. Merryl Kafka is retired Curator of Education at the NY Aquarium warm in An extension of Wonderful Whales, this session will focus on adaptations, migration patterns and feeding habits. New activities and crafts will reinforce biological concepts for survival including sounds for navigation and communication, and keeeping water.
May 21 INVESTIGATE INVERTEBRATES Instructor: Dr. Merryl Kafka is retired Curator of Education at the NY Aquarium A new exploration of 97% of the world's animals...Invertebrates. Students will explore the adaptations of some marine animals, from giant squid to microscopic life and use microscopes to see the small world of animals life.
