Dr. Stuart Ablon, PhD
Parenting, Teaching and Treating Children with Behavioral Challenges
Adult/Child power struggles can leave both parties frustrated with adults scratching their heads, wondering how it could have gone differently. Dr. Ablon offers a new way to understand and help all kids, but especially children with behavior challenges. He describes a revolutionary, evidence-based approach called Collaborative Problem Solving that challenges conventional wisdom and may change your notion of what it means to be an authority figure to the children in your lives, both personally and professionally. This lecture with Dr. Ablon will help you gain insight into children with behavioral challenges while learning techniques that can work in any setting to solve the everyday problems of educating, treating, and parenting in a more collaborative way.
Saturday, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Ms. Hala Khouri, MA
Using Yoga and Mindfulness Techniques to Foster Resilience and Self-Regulation in Yourself and Those You Care For
Ms. Khouri will be offering a physiological framework for understanding behavior challenges as well as our response to behavior challenges in others. If we are anxious and dysregulated we will not be able to address the behavior challenges of others effectively even if we have the right tools. Ms. Khouri will share important techniques from Somatic Experiencing, a therapy that helps to resolve the symptoms of stress and trauma, as well as yoga. You will learn how to incorporate these tools into your relationships with the youth who you work with or in your own parenting and personal relationships. Ms. Khouri is passionate about teaching people of all ages how to self-regulate so that they can make better choices and be more resilient.
