Facing History and the Common Core: Developing Student Voice
The Common Core State Standards are being implemented in school districts throughout the nation. Facing History's rigorous and engaging primary sources and teaching strategies can be essential tools for Social Studies and ELA teachers who are designing lessons and projects that fulfill the Common Core literacy tasks and that develop students' sense of civic agency. Participants will explore materials developed by Facing History that provide in-depth, scaffolded argumentative writing assessments designed to fulfill and exceed many of the literacy standards, including supplements to Facing History’s Holocaust and Human Behavior and Choices in Little Rock case studies.
