Some of the Values that Shape My Work

I have worked with children and families in various capacities for over 30 years, as an itinerant special education teacher, recreation therapist, child life specialist, and early intervention administrator. I am most passionate about my work supporting the strengths of each family to meet the needs of their children. Having worked as a special educator and child life specialist; I appreciate the importance of including the family in all decisions regarding their children. Each family is unique and has both strengths and challenges that impact their ability to support their child.  As we move forward, the challenges facing children and families both in education and healthcare are increasing as resources are diminishing. It is important for professionals who are and will be working with children and families to understand the obstacles and mobilize the available resources within the family and community to best support each child’s development.
