Event Description

Bank Street Bookstore welcomes fans of the Colbert Report and other book lovers to attend an exclusive book signing with comedy pundit Stephen Colbert this Saturday May 12, from 10 am to 12 pm.

Colbert’s I Am A Pole (And So Can You!) was conceived during an interview with the late renowned children’s book author and illustrator Maurice Sendak, when Colbert playfully decided he wanted to “cash in” on the celebrity children’s book  scene and described a story about a flagpole’s search for an identity.

“It’s terribly ordinary,” Sendak said, but “the sad thing is I like it.” The interview went viral and fans clamored for a real book.

The illustrated book is “the perfect gift to give a child or grandchild for their high school or college graduation,” Colbert says. “Also Father's Day. Also, other times.”

Colbert has pledged to donate all profits from the book to U.S. Vets, which helps homeless veterans. Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks will narrate the audiobook version of I Am A Pole (And So Can You!), which will be released May 29.

Colbert will sign copies of I Am A Pole (And So Can You!) at Bank Street Bookstore this Saturday, May 12 from 10 am till 12 Noon.

Copies of the book can be purchased at the event, or ordered here.

Warning-- I Am A Pole is NOT FOR KIDS.
