Earn the Bilingual Extension to your New York State teaching certification.
Overview
Through this 15-credit course sequence, you will also learn how to develop and implement an effective, child-centered Spanish / English dual language program in your classroom. The courses prepare you to understand and assess different models of dual language education and transitional bilingual programs.
You will learn to work collaboratively with culturally diverse groups of parents and other educators to support the bilingual development of the whole child within school and community settings.
Certification in Education
After completing the course sequence, Bank Street will recommend you for the Bilingual Extension to your current New York State classroom certification.
Supervised Fieldwork/Advisement
The Bilingual Extension does not require additional fieldwork.
Admission Requirements
Individuals may complete the bilingual extension as non-matriculated students at Bank Street, or they may take the courses as a sequence intregrated into any of our master's degree programs in Dual Language / Bilingual Education.
