Bank Street Summer Camp

image description

Where imaginations grow and learning is fun.

Bank Street Summer Camp is the premier progressive day camp in Manhattan for children 4 to 14. We are co-ed, and located on 112th street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. As a child-centered, nurturing community, we emphasize process rather than product and we pride ourselves on the ratio of campers to counselors. It is that ratio that allows us to make an emotionally and physically safe environment as well as maintain such a hands-on approach to summer learning and fun.

    Lower Camp

The Lower Camp consists of 11 groups for children 4-8 years old. Our two-week, five-week and one-week programs are designed to offer children an opportunity to explore the city and its vast resources, in a safe and relaxed setting. Within our air-conditioned classrooms each group is equipped with both challenging and enriching materials. Each group swims three times a week, twice in the Barnard College pool and once at the scenic Lake Welch, where our waterfront staff instructs the children both individually and in small groups, at appropriate swim levels and with an emphasis on safety. Lake Welch is located in Harriman State Park, 40 minutes north of Manhattan. Lower Camp programs are General Camp, Science and Spanish Immersion.

    Upper Camp

The Upper Camp is uniquely designed to meet the needs of middle school children, ages 8-14. Campers choose from a variety of focused programs and also participate in larger unit activities, including swimming twice a week and community focused field trips. During their semiweekly swim, time is divided between instruction and organized free swim where the same counselors work with the same campers each time.

Quotes

"Bank Street Summer Camp is inherently an environment where families are built. In one summer, I've gained more best friends, mentors, and second, third (and fourth) parents than anyone else could find in a lifetime. We all grew, we all learned from each other, and we built relationships that will never founder. Best of all, we did it with the greatest city in the world as our backdrop."

—Jenn (Counselor)
