After Camp Overview

After Camp is excited to announce new additions for the Summer 2013 season, including Improv Theater, Jazz Dance with Claudia, Yoga for Youth and private chess lessons. Enrichment courses are from 3:00pm  to 4:30pm. After Care is from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. Remember that children do not have to be enrolled in Summer Camp to attend After Camp programs.

The “Drop In” option is available for children who are not enrolled in enrichment courses during the whole session, but need to join a courses at 3:00pm on a specific day for an additional fee of $30.00 per day.

Please note: The grades listed are the grades that the camper will be going into for Fall 2013.

  • Session 1 Mon/Wed Enrichment

    Creative Cooking (PreK - 1st Grade) Young chefs-in-training create delicious eye-catching dishes and edible arrangements including “Veggie Pinwheels” and “Banana Volcanoes” in a full kitchen. All recipes are nut free. Drop ins are welcome.

    Child’s Corner (PreK - 1st Grade) Act out in our extraordinary dramatic play area or play quiet games with peers.  Work on creative projects using colorful everyday items. Drop ins are welcome. 

    Sports Sampler (K - 1st Grade)  Children will get introduced to new games, explore eye-hand coordination and have a ball, literally!  Play butterball, tag and other games that encourage children to use their imagination and improve motor skills in a non-competitive environment.

    Young Scientists (K - 2nd Grade) Let your child’s curiosity go wild! Learn and explore the world of science, conduct experiments, make observations, make mistakes, and get messy! This is not class for Drop Ins.

    Chess Champs (1st Grade and Up)  Learn how to play chess, pick up new strategies, and play with your buddies and counselors in a non-competitive atmosphere. This is a terrific way for kids to pace themselves, build self-image and self-esteem. 

    Kick It Soccer (3rd Grade and Up) Learn the fundamentals of soccer. Learn how to kick, dribble, gain knowledge of offensive and defensive plays, improve playing skills, learn new tricks and play scrimmage games on the roof.

    Private Lessons (All ages) Lessons are with a teacher per half-hour. We offer lessons for chess, guitar, swim, piano, Spanish from 3:15pm to 5:00pm and Chess from 4:30pm-5:30pm. Please Note: Private Lessons are only available from Monday to Thursday. Fridays are reserved for makeup classes. Private Lessons must be cancelled 24 hours in advance. 

    Extended Day Care at 4:30 (All ages) Campers can register for half hour, full hour or an hour and a half after 4:30pm. Work on fun creative projects each day from 4:30-6:00pm. Each week will have a different theme. Children can only participate in Extended Day Care if they are registered for enrichment courses and/or private lessons as well. Note: Please make arrangements for your child be picked up by 6:00pm.     Tumbler’s Delight (PreK - 1st Grade) Explore tumbling and movement in a safe space full of mats. Children will go through obstacle courses, play games and have a whirl of a time.

    Pee Wee tag games (PreK - 2nd Grade) Play unlimited tag games in the gym.

    Child’s Corner (PreK - 1st Grade) Act out in our extraordinary dramatic play area or play quiet games with peers.  Work on creative projects using colorful everyday items.  Artwork projects are taken home the same day. Drop ins are welcome.

    Woodworking (1st - 3rd Grade)  Explore the concepts of planning and measurements. Use special tools to create wooden crafts.

    Hoops Basketball (3rd Gade and Up) Learn the basics of basketball. Practice dribbling and shooting techniques, learn offensive and defensive plays and new tricks.

    Buddy Chefs (All ages) Young campers pair up with older campers to create delicious dishes. This is a great opportunity for mixed ages to establish new friendships and set examples for one another while preparing delicious entrees and snacks.

    Child’s Corner (PreK - 1st grade) Act out in our extraordinary dramatic play area or play quiet games with peers.  Work on creative projects using colorful everyday items. Campers will be manipulating different types of materials from construction paper to pipe cleaners. Artwork projects are taken home the same day. Drop ins are welcome.

    Chess Champs (1st Grade and Up) Learn how to play chess, new strategies and play with your buddies and counselors in a non-competitive atmosphere. This is a terrific way for kids to pace themselves, build self-image and self-esteem.

    Dodgeball games (3rd Grade and Up) Play a different game every Friday including Butterball, Team Dodge, and Scooter Dodge.

    Photo Journalism (2nd - 8th Grade) Why do certain photographs make you feel a certain way? How can you evoke a feeling through a photo? Before you take a photograph is it important to learn how to read an image. In this class you will learn how to read and take photographs like a professional photographer. You’ll get so good at using a camera you will start helping your parents. This is not class for Drop Ins.

    Beyond Beads (2nd Grade and Up) Join friends and use different beading techniques to make fashionable accessories.

    Kick It Soccer (3rd Grade and Up) Learn the fundamentals of soccer. Learn how to kick, dribble, offensive and defensive plays, improve playing skills, learn new tricks and play scrimmage games on the roof.

    Zumba for Kids (3rd Grade and Up) Learn the popular fitness dance! Exercise and boogie to the beat of international music.

    Rock Band (3rd Grade and Up) Come one, come all and rock out with Jesse Levine-Spound. All levels and instruments welcome. The rock band will hold a performance on the last day of After Camp. Jesse Levine-Spound was a vocal and instrumental major at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts and is now going into his Sophomore year at Berklee College of Music majoring in songwriting. He has been playing guitar for the past 11 years, including 4 years of training with world renowned jazz guitarist Rudy Linka.  At Twenty, Jesse has already had the honor of playing with popular sixties folk musician Peter Yarrow of Peter Paul & Mary and Jazz legend Bill Wurtzel. Jesse spent his past summer vacation at the NYU guitar intensive while still writing his own compositions. 

    Book Jam 1 (4th and 5th Grade) Young readers will gather and engage to discuss popular literature. This summer the book will be Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

    Robotics (3rd - 7th Grade) Learn how to build Lego robots and the programming language to control their every move. This exciting class fills quickly so register early! This is not class for Drop Ins.

    American Sign Language (ASL) (2nd and Up) Learn American sign language.

    Board Games To Go: Make Your Own Board Game (3rd - 8th grade) Study well-known board games and card games then develop your own! Take home your final game at the end of the session to play with family and friends. This is not class for Drop Ins.

    Advanced Collage (2nd Grade and UpIn Advanced Collage the children are introduced to a new concept each class, such as Surrealism and Decoupage, and create collages based on these concepts.

    Street Jazz Dance (3rd Grade and Up) Through a combination of hip hop and jazz dance, Prince Rileywill aid the campers in the coreography of their own dances and perform them at the end of camp.  Prince Riley is a miraculous talent whose work has been recognized since he was a child growing up in the Bronx. He studied dancing, acting and singing and made a prominent career for himself in television, film and theater. Prince was featured in the music videos of John Legend, Jazmine Sullivan and Fergie to name a few and has graced the stage with great international artists like Rihanna and Thalia. Prince has also appeared in commercials for Verizon, Nike and MTV networks and has been on the silver screen in Transformers 2. Although Prince enjoys entertaining, he made his breakthrough finding his niche and passion in choreography.

    Step Team (3rd Grade and Up) Campers will create percussion using their hands, legs and feet. Learn rhythmic routines and hold a performance on the last day of After Camp.

    Computer Programming (3rd - 8th Grade) Learn the language called Processing and develop electronic sketches and graphics. This language builds on Java but uses simplified syntax and graphics. This is not class for Drop Ins.

    Book Jam 2 (6th - 8th Grade) Young readers will gather and engage to discuss popular literature. This summer the book will be Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper.

    Improv Theater (4th - 8th Grade) Learn dramatic acting techniques, encourage dialogue and entertainment with new friends.
