What is the Middle Camp?

The Middle Camp consists of 5 groups for children going into second or third grade. Our eight day and five-week programs are designed to offer children an opportunity to explore the city and its vast resources, in a safe and relaxed setting. Within our air-conditioned classrooms each group is equipped with both challenging and enriching materials. Each Middle Camp group has a weekly trip day. See below for a description of each program and a sample schedule.

Campers have both instructional swim twice a week and free swim once a week at a private pool in Riverdale. Counselors and swim staff work with the same campers each time, individually and in small groups, at appropriate swim levels and with an emphasis on safety.

Below are Middle Camp dates and descriptions of each program.

Session 1 (6/18/14 - 6/28/14)

Select the grade your child will be going into for the 2014 school year.

  • Adventures in Science, Grades 2nd-3rd

The Middle Camp Science program allows campers to explore science in a fun and exciting way without being in a scholastic environment. Counselors create a hands-on environment and they encourage campers to explore nature. At the end of the summer campers put on their own science fair that’s open to the rest of the camp and parents.

Come and experience all the different phases of creating and putting on a musical.  With a focus on collaboration (which will be defined as a group), campers write an original 20-minute musical (book, music, and lyrics), design and craft sets and costumes, and finally perform the piece (as actors, dancers, stage managers, lighting and sound designers, and musicians).  Along the way, campers also learn the basic terminology of musicals and theater, work hard towards a common goal, and have a good time.  Every camper will have an essential role in the creation of the final product.  All campers need is a water bottle and a great attitude.
