SFC Kids Thank Annual Fund Donors
"The highest form of philanthropy"
An Unrestricted Gift...
An unrestricted gift is the highest form of philanthropy. It helps the school most because it gives the school the freedom to place the money where, in the wisdom of the board, it will serve the best purpose. This is not to discourage you from giving where your passion lies. But think broadly.
—Tracy Savage, from NAIS’ Gifts That Give Back
Like all educational institutions, Bank Street relies on the generosity of its community to continue fulfilling its mission “…to improve the education of children and their teachers…by connecting teaching and learning meaningfully to the outside world.”
Annual Giving provides vital funds to close the gap between tuition income and the growing costs associated with maintaining a small college with a big voice in education. These unrestricted gifts allow the College to allocate funds to best support its students and teachers.
Bank Street has four separately managed Annual Funds.
The Bank Street Annual Fund
The Bank Street Annual Fund supports the overall needs of the institution and allows the Board of Trustees jurisdiction over where these funds, received and spent within the fiscal year, are applied. Gifts to the Bank Street Annual Fund provide operational support and allow the College to remain dedicated to its mission and the challenges set forth it its strategic plan.
Gifts to the Bank Street Annual Fund:
- Vivify Bank Street’s educational mission by enhancing and strengthening all programs
- Encourage faculty scholarship and lifelong learning
- Expand strategic research and reach a wider audience in advocating for children and educators
- Provide a strong financial foundation to sustain Bank Street’s future
The Graduate School Annual Fund
Gifts to the Graduate School Annual Fund are critical. 100% of donations to the Graduate School Annual Fund are used for graduate student scholarships, making a Bank Street education accessible to more aspiring teachers and school leaders. The demand for scholarships continues to increase, and is often a determining factor in a qualified candidate’s decision to pursue a Bank Street education.
A Bank Street education changes lives. Alumna Jane Geiger Wyatt '75 says, "There's nothing that I didn't learn at Bank Street twenty-five years ago. It was all there. I realize with each passing year how fortunate I was to have this enriching experience at such a formative point in my career." Another alumna, Nancy Shea '62 adds, "Looking over my career, I owe a lot to Bank Street. They made me what I am." Strong alumni support, including participatory gifts, is vital for the longevity of the College.
School for Children Annual Fund
Your gift has a direct and immediate impact. Through the generosity of our community of current parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, friends of the school, and faculty and staff, the School for Children is able to:
- Provide unique hands-on learning opportunities in the tradition of progressive education
- Offer financial aid for families
- Carry out needed technological improvements
- Recruit and retain the best teachers in the field
Family Center Annual Fund
When you support the Family Center Annual Fund, you are impacting the youngest members of the Bank Street community. Your gift to the Family Center enables families with children from six months to four years old to receive developmentally-oriented and culturally sensitive child care. The center also serves as a training site for graduate and high school students who will move on to share their learning with others, making the effect of your gift even greater.
