Some of the Values that Shape My Work

The driving force behind my work is equity. In my work, equity includes increasing understanding of children with special needs and their families; advocating for children with diverse family structures; facilitating an awareness of gender diversity; and working towards quality programs for infants and toddlers. The developmental-interaction approach is uniquely suited to creating fairness and equity as it considers the individual (child and/or adult) and the context. Working together with students to understand the lives of children, families and educators allows us to ever expand and advance discussions (and, hopefully, application) of the principles of equity.

Work with Families, Children, Schools, and Communities

Worked in a variety of settings with young children, including Early Head Start, teen parent programs, and child care centers. Organized conferences focused on teacher education for community colleges and child care associations. Vice President of the Coalition of Infant/Toddler Educators. Presentations for Bank Street College Infancy Institute, National Association for the Education of Young Children, Society for Risk Management, resource and referral agencies, child care centers, corporations, and child care organizations.

Recent Professional Contributions

Fieldwork advisor working with advisees in the Infant and Family and Early Intervention Program, as well as the Early Childhood Special Education Program. Developmental specialist in early intervention working with the families of children, birth to 3 years of age, at home or in group programs. Director of the Infancy Institute.
