Renew Books, Place Holds

There are three ways to renew books: online, phone, and email, but please register with us first.

Renew Books

Remember, there is a three day grace period before fines accrue, and children never pay fines for overdue books.

Online

Once you log in, you can manage your personal information, renew books, place holds, and create lists.

Phone

You are welcome to renew by phone, please call 212-875-4455. If you leave a voice message please wait for either a phone or email confirmation that your books have been renewed.

Email

If you email us, please wait for an email confirmation that your books have been renewed.

  • Renew Books Step-by-Step

    Renew Books

    Step 1: To renew books click on the My Account / Renew button on the Library’s homepage.

    Step 2: To activate the Login pop-up window, go to the pull-down menu and find Log in on the top right of the page.

    Step 3: Type in your credentials in the pop-up box.

    • Graduate students, faculty, and alums type your full Bank Street email address.
    • Parent who have registered with the Library use the email you communicate with the School for Children.
    • The generic password is changeme. Please change your password to one that is private.

    Step 4: You should see your first name, e.g., (Joe) where My Account [log in] used to be. Now go to My Dashboard.

    Step 5: To renew or extend your borrowing period, click Checked Out.

    Step 6: Check either Renew All or Renew Selected (for individual items). You should see a new due date, and remaining available renewals. If you are unable to renew it means:

    • Another patron has placed a hold on your book (you can keep until the due date)
    • You have tried to renew when the book is overdue. Please call the circulation desk  for assistance, 212-875-4455.

Place Holds

To place a hold on a book look for the Place hold link in the bottom left-hand corner of the record.

  • If you are not already logged into the catalog, then you will be prompted to enter your login credentials:
    • your full Bank Street email address, e.g., jstudent@bankstreet.edu
    • Parents, your username is the email address you use to communicate with  Bank Street School for Children.
    • the default password is changeme (we encourage you to change it).
  • Only adult patrons can place holds on books (i.e., graduate school students, parents, and alumni).
  • Patrons can have ten active holds at anyone time.
  • Select Next available copy for faster service.
  • When a hold becomes available, the Library will send you an email, or voice mail.
  • When you have successfully placed a hold, you can either View My holds, or check Done.
  • Items on hold can be picked up at the circulation desk in the Library.
  • You have five business days to pick up your hold.
