Let ‘Er Buck! George Fletcher, the People’s Champion
Author: Vaunda Micheaux Nelson
When judges deprive African American cowboy, George Fletcher, of a rodeo victory, the spectators support him. Rhythmic prose, dynamic oil illustrations and extensive back matter.
Our Young Reviewer Says:
“Stefano really liked the message – it doesn’t matter about your skin color, what matters is who you are and what you do. He liked how when George was a little boy, and then a man, he never gave up. He really liked the ending when the people rooted for George, when he had the most wild horse and didn’t fall off. He didn’t like when John Spain was said to be first just because of his white skin. But Stefano was happy when the crowd booed and they did the right thing.”
