Sylvie Hsiao-Yi Fan was born and raised in Taiwan. After receiving her BA in English, she attended New York University for her master’s degree in Non-Profit Organization Management and Policy. Her early career evolved through a love of the performing arts, and she worked with various non-profit arts organizations for over 10 years. While researching quality education options for her daughter, Sylvie developed a strong interest in early childhood education and became a true believer in the strength of progressive education. She joined Bank Street Head Start in 2012 as a parent and, over the years, her roles have diversified through policy counsel (vice chair), family worker, bookkeeper/administrative assistant, assistant director, and, currently, director of budget and operations. In her leisure time, Sylvie enjoys cooking, crafting, and traveling.
