The Center for Children’s Literature at Bank Street College of Education is delighted to announce that Counting on Katherine written by Helaine Becker, illustrated by Dow Phumiruk; published by Christy Ottaviano Books, Henry Holt and Company is the 2019 Cook Prize winner.
The honorees are:
- Fossil by Fossil: Comparing Dinosaur Bones by Sara Levine, illustrated by T.S. Spookytooth; published by Millbrook Press/Lerner
- If Polar Bears Disappeared written and illustrated by Lily Williams; published by Roaring Brook Press
- Nothing Stopped Sophie: The Story of Unshakable Mathematician Sophie German written by Cheryl Bardoe, illustrated by Barbara McClintock; published by Little, Brown Young Readers
Almost 5,000 children in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and the United Arab Emirates participated in the selection and final voting process.
The winner and honorees will be celebrated at Bank Street’s, Thursday, May 16, 2019 awards ceremony in the Tabas Auditorium. Caldecott winner Brian Floca will be the keynote speaker.
