About
The Bank Street Family Center offers a dynamic, comprehensive, and nurturing early learning environment for young children ages 6 months through 5 years. Our programs help children build a strong foundation for later learning by helping them develop their social, emotional, and cognitive skills early on.
The Family Center opened in 1974 when Bank Street College provided space for a group of parents—including several staff members—to operate a childcare center for infants and toddlers. The center has grown and changed over time and now includes a childcare program for 60 families, a Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) program for 30 children, a preschool evaluation site for 60 children, and infant-toddler playgroups for 35 children.
Children at the Family Center learn through play and discovery. Our environment is primed with materials that engage their senses, ignite their curiosities, and help them make sense of the world around them. Our staff are caring experts who know that building positive and trusting early relationships is crucial to a child’s learning and development.
Most of all, we know that families are the most important people in a child’s life. We invite families to visit, participate, and play a role in their child’s experience at the Family Center.
