Library Salon #21 With Rima Shore
Join us Friday, October 4, 5:30–7:30 PM to celebrate Rima Shore’s new book, Lady with a Brooch: Violinist Eva Mudocci – a Biography and a Detective Story. With this story as backdrop, we will discuss: what does it mean to be a researcher? A learner? An expert?
Kharissa Kenner is our new Children’s Librarian. Kharissa enjoys teaching, reading to students and assisting students with finding books to check out of the Library. Audrey will also teach several classes in the Library this year. Please stop by the Children’s Library and say hi to Kharissa and Audrey.
My name is Alina. I’m from Berlin, Germany and I’m here at Bank Street Library for an internship. In 2015 I did my master’s degree in media studies. After two years of working in online marketing I decided to study again. So I started to study library information science at the FH Potsdam. Potsdam is very close to Berlin. It’s a one hour trip by train from where I live to the FH (University of Applied Science).
Logging into Databases from Home
It is our all-time most frequently asked question, “How do I get into the databases from home?” In the past, it was a little complicated with 14 digit library issued barcodes, but today it’s super easy! At home or anywhere else off campus all you need is your Bank Street email address and the password associated with that account. If you’re having problems logging in, email the friendly folks at the IT HelpDesk helpdesk@bankstreet.edu
Library Catalog Citation Help
Sometimes we just want to get a quick and easy APA citation for a book we’ve found in the Bank Street Library online catalog. Maybe you haven’t noticed, but there is an APA citation button for each item in our catalog. It’s not perfect, but it will do most of the work you need to do to create a good citation.
Creating a Flyer
The key to making a great flyer is, as one student told me “work smarter, don’t work harder… use templates!” Templates take the hard work out of making an eye-catching poster. With a little bit of tweaking here and there you can change text, colors, and create something that is your own.
Graduate Student Library Survey 2018
The Graduate Student Library survey was distributed through email, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The Library sent two email blasts with a high rate of response. The survey ran from November 1 through December 7, 2018. The 17 question survey covered demographics, satisfaction, and priorities for the next two years.
Permalinks & Document URLs
It is getting easier to share articles with students and colleagues, and to embed links that work into learning management systems e.g., Canvas. But, there are a few things you need to know to make things go smoothly. The key is to look for Permalinks in EBSCO databases, and Document URLs in ProQuest.
Do We Have Access to JSTOR?
This question pops up every so often: Do we have access to JSTOR by virtue of being a student at Bank Street. If so, how do we access the JSTOR database. It does not seem obvious. The short answer is, no – we don’t have access to JSTOR. Our database providers are EBSCOhost and ProQuest.
The Wellness Room
The Library’s recent graduate student survey showed that many of our patrons did not know we have a Wellness Room, also known as the Prayer Room. The Wellness Room is right down the back of the Library. Enter the Library and keep walking past the circulation and reference desks, keep walking straight and you’ll soon see a room with a grey door and the words Wellness above it. You have arrived!
