The Bank Street Celebration is the College’s signature benefit that increases awareness of Bank Street’s mission in the greater community and raises funds to support its vital work. Held annually, the event showcases the profound role that education plays in building a better society. Phoebe Boyer is the President and CEO of Children’s Aid, which provides comprehensive supports to help children in poverty succeed and thrive. Boyer has worked to strengthen its programs and operations with a keen focus on optimizing the impact on the lives of children, youth, and families. Under her leadership, Children’s Aid was recognized for exceptional management practices as a 2017 winner of the New York Community Trust’s Nonprofit Excellence Awards. City & State honored Boyer on its 2018 Above & Beyond list of 30 remarkable women, and selected her and nine other nonprofit leaders for its 2019 Responsible 100 list of people who are improving their communities and making transformative change. Phoebe came to Children’s Aid after a decade at the Robertson Foundation, a $1 billion foundation created by Julian Robertson and his family that takes a targeted approach to supporting critical national issues. She oversaw operations and grantmaking of more than $100 million annually, and developed and executed the foundation’s national K-12 education reform strategy. She also served for 12 years as the executive director of the Tiger Foundation, also founded by Robertson, with a mission to break the cycle of poverty in New York City. Phoebe graduated from Wesleyan University and earned her MBA from Columbia Business School.
Matthew Gross is the Founder and Executive Chair of Newsela, a company that provides engaging, leveled content to support students’ reading growth. Gross has led the growth of Newsela from inception to over 500 employees and over 40 million registered teachers and students. He has a 25-year career in education policy and practice, nonprofit and for-profit entrepreneurship, and product development and distribution. Previously, Gross was executive director of the Regents Research Fund, a privately funded affiliate of the New York State Board of Regents and Education Department that helped lead the implementation of Race to the Top-driven education reforms. He began his career as a Teach for America corps member. He holds a BA from Columbia University.
